White Liberal Racists Come Out to Play?

There was some tragic news in Seattle this weekend.

There have been quite a few shootings in Seattle lately, and this is just another one added to the count. Already in 2009 though? I mean, damn.

According to a witness, someone opened up the side door at Chop Suey, opened fire and fled. One person was killed. Police have two possible suspects in custody.

There were several hip hop acts scheduled to perform at Chop Suey tonight, including Young Soprano, Fatal Lucciano, No Clue, Dividenz and Anonimous. A witness says Young Soprano was performing when the shooting happened.

Update 2: One of the show's promoters says he'd been urged to cancel the event because of the possibility of a gang related conflict.

"There were rumors circulating about the show and people told me not to put it on," the promoter says. "Some of these people are from down south and some of them are from the Central District." Schatzer says one of tonight's performers even brought their own security.

The promoter says he heard 5 or 6 shots in the back of the club near the bathrooms and saw the show's host, 1st Black Prez, get hit in the shoulder.

According to the article, a local rapper, 29-E, was killed. One rapper, Black Prez, is still in critical condition according to last reports.

Now, I was over at 206 Proof, and I was reading the comments there about this really tragic thing. I noticed that there was a big to do about the comments on The Slog (The Stranger's Blog). I went over to the comments and as usual, there's a lot of "blame hip hop" rhetoric and where does that lead? Bigoted, racist statements.

This is how commentators do out here in Seattle though. You talk about Amanda Knox, or some guy who was shot by cops, while wearing a Nazi uniform, when he raised his weapon towards an officer, and you get a hell of a lot more sympathy for these people. It annoys me because a piece of shit is a piece of shit, no matter the race. I have no sympathy for Amanda Knox, just like I have no sympathy for any of the thugs making Seattle a crappier city to try to live in.

What amazes me is that this is the comment section of a blog that belongs to The Stranger. The Stranger is a very liberal newspaper. Let me tell ya, Sarah Palin would faint if she got a hold of it. Why, if you needed a good time, you could just look at the back of the paper and find a prostitute. Yes, a prostitute. Full color ads there for ya!

The paper and its blog are ot a conservative haven, so why all the racist comments. Let me find you a few:

Why hasn't rap (or hiphop or whatever the fuck they're calling that shit) faded away by now? That "genre" has been on life support for at least thirty years.

It's shit music, made by idiots, with an audience of violent assholes. Its been corporatized beyond belief, with most of the songs seeming to be nothing but recitations of brand names.

I think they should just have these hiphop nights at the fucking King County Jail. Then they can check everybody on the way out, and whoever has an oustanding warrant gets to stay. It would be a great way to keep these violent retards off the streets.

If blacks want to shoot each other, fine, I could honestly care less. Please just keep it in their own neighborhoods. I hate having to put up with this shit when they bring it to the Hill.

No more hip-hop on the Hill!

The problem is the departed is a white male (may he rest in peace) and the show's promoter is also a white male. The hip hop scene out here is pretty multiracial and apparently the shooter is a white male as well. Doesn't matter. It has some semblance of black culture so therefore it's time to ban "hip hop nights" out here.

I stopped going to clubs in Seattle a while ago because, I've gotten too old to want to spend time with a bunch of strangers. That and it appeared there were one too many shootings at the clubs with more than a few black patrons. I stopped frequenting black clubs altogether, and just went to clubs that were frequented by white kids for the most part. Well, you know when white dudes get crunk they go around in circles talking about "bro" and "dude" and throw punches that go nowhere and then makeup at the end. LOL don't get pissed, it's true. Mr. Slim will tell you. I've seen those dudes in action, man. I digress...

Unfortunately, the brothers out there had a greater proclivity for weaponry so I had to "migrate." I don't fault the commentators for saying that something isn't right with these shootings occuring at "hip hop" clubs (aka black clubs. They just won't say it). There were several people on the blog that actually had great points. Unfortunately, most of the commentators, who are mostly white and liberal (I know the area), took the opportunity to voice their prejudiced views.

Isn't this supposed to be Washington State? Aren't we all supposed to be super cool and liberal? NO! In all actuality, the racism and prejudice out here is the most vitriolic kind. It's the kind that smiles in your face and stabs you in the back. You go to the South, you might know what's up. Out here, cats will front about how they have 10 black friends, but will talk shit on the Seattle Times or Seattle PI comments section about "homey g's" (I HATE THAT TERM) and the like.

So if you thought Seattle was a bastion of diversity and tolerance, just read the comments. You might find things are not what they seem.

You're right about the south. I stay in Nashville and they'll let you know that you aren't liked around here. Except they don't do it just saying it to your face, they make more money and make sure you can't play where they stay. It's funny how the anonymity of the internet breeds comments like those but in mixed company I'm sure that nothing of the like would get said. The saddest thing is that as much as I wanted Obama to win the election, I knew that it was going to make racism worse and draw a more divisive line in the proverbial sand, rather than eliminate racism like others thought it might. Even in tragedy people are making scapegoats of a culture instead of pointing the finger at those responsible.

Racism is everywhere, sometimes it's out front, sometimes it's quiet. It is definitely sad.

My GF and I were on a cruise and while waiting to disembark I kissed her on top of the head. GF's Mom saw an older black woman sitting to the right giving us an evil stare. Well Mom decided that she would keep quiet instead of make a scene so she turned and looked left instead. What does she see but an older white woman giving us the evil eye.

Left, right, it's there. I will say that IMO Obama's election will make bring out more racism. On the other side, and I have seen it already, it will also unite those of us who are against as well.

Fight the good fight. It ain't always easy.

Well I am glad I came back to read this blog. I was wondering if the racism in Seattle was not as bad as St. Louis. I see it is about the same. I definately don't think liberals are any less racist than conservatives either. I was really hoping to find a more laid back city where racial harmony was a little better. Looks like it is not Seattle.
