I was over at the Huffington Post today and came across this story on their new, LobbyBlog:

As members of Congress assess the proper dose of reform for the nation's health care system, many of them have likewise invested hundreds of thousands of dollars of their personal funds into the very companies whose financial fortunes depend on what measures become law.

While some political scientists and other experts are concerned this reality inhibits good policy, lawmakers themselves say the financial health of their constituents -- not their investment portfolios -- alone drive their decisions.

Legislators held significant investments in pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Merck, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Amgen, the Center for Responsive Politics has found. Through 2008 -- the most recent year for which lawmakers filed this information -- many congressional members' personal funds were also invested in big-time insurers Aetna, UnitedHealth Group and Metlife, among others.

I will be adding LobbyBlog to my reader. I am truly disturbed that our "leadership" is heavily invested in health care companies that are happy with bilking us out of money and keeping us sick.

Since we cannot really trust our government to act or move fast enough, we need to approach our healths in a naturopathic and holistic manner. Prevention is better than cure. That starts with diet. But be careful what you put in there:

At my fitness blog I will be introducing folks to Monsanto, a bio-agricultural company. Oh these guys are great. They are behind DDT, Agent Orange and YOUR milk and food. Mmmm... I am drooling right now for some DDT pops.

What Does This Have To Do With Your Fitness Blog?

Plenty! I am suffering from a condition in my throat (it sucks but I hope it's not life threatening and will be resolved with some steroids and stuff) that may have been caused by CONSTANT exposure to Yellow 5 (Tartrazine; please google it, especially if you are asthmatic like myself or have allergies like me). My youngest also has terrible allergies, and I am tired of seeing him suffer.

In my investigations, I am hit hard by how we are being bombarded with unhealthy toxins in our food supply, something that may be contributing to our high rates of disease and obesity.

Guess who's suffering the most? The poverty stricken, usually inner-city youth. Do the math.

I am hoping that my blog will help people make the right choices, and they won't have to go through this hell that I am going through now. I've found out the hard way that simply working out and eating "right" (how wrong I was) would keep me healthy. Wrong.

Not every salad or bit of nonfat milk is healthy. And if Monsanto or any other GMO (genetically modified organism) company is behind it, chances are you're eating something that could kill you or your family in the long run. If you think I'm playing, read the studies.
