Is This Racist? Watermelon Soda's Controversial Image

I just would love to have been part of the marketing and advertising meeting that spawned this.

"So we have this watermelon soda we'd like to sell. We're thinking some cool imagery would sell it. Something different..."

"Watermelon, eh? How about a black girl, with big pink-ish lips eating a watermelon? Reminds people of the good old days? Idyllic times."

"Whoa! It might be racist."

"Hell, let's put a white kid on the other side and it will be TOTALLY okay. Then, no one can accuse us of racism."

"WIN! Let's do it!"

Is that how the meeting went? I mean, I have nothing.
