These are photos of model Lara Stone for French Vogue, and they're causig quite the commotion. Questions about blackface have been raised, and I can see why. At the same token, I am not getting the same grossed out feeling I got watching those morons on "Hey Hey It's Saturday" from the Jackson Jive routine.
Some believe, and I am definitely seeing how, that these photos question the notion of race, blackness and whiteness.
Since I am torn, I will ask: Do you think these photos qualify as blackface? What do you think they are trying to convey?
Furthermore, what, in your opinion, qualifies as acceptable "blackface" (for a lack of better words)?
Does This Qualify As Blackface?
