I don't think so. I'm still reading up on it, so I am not an authority on this. I am strictly going off of emotion.
I am reading more and more that race is a "social construct" something that we as a group of people came up with. I find this notion to be a bit dangerous considering that we have serious problem with aversive racism as opposed to overt racism ie burning crosses, lynching, slavery, etc.
The "social construct" argument to me is misleading and it can give an out to people who want to use the very irresponsible "colorblind" argument. As you can see in this blog, I have railed against the notion of being "colorblind" as it produces people who could give a shit less about real issues happening that pertain to race.
I also find it almost demeaning in the sense that it takes away from what makes us truly special, all of us, not just black, but white, Asian, Hispanic, etc.
It's almost as if it seeks to erase history and our heritage in order to push the "colorblind" agenda that, in my opinion, has done quite a bit of harm to today's race relations.
Do you think race is as simple as being a "social construct?" Or is it just an excuse for delusional multiculturalists?
Is Race Really a Social Cosntruct?
