I read about the sale, disappearance and now confirmed murder of Shaniya Davis, and my heart dropped. Then, I raged when I read about the death of 9 year old Elizabeth Olten at the hands of a sick, disturbed and devilish 15 year old Alyssa Bustamante.
You know what? This kind of shit doesn't even make sense. Kids are lighting other kids on fire, they're raping girls right outside of high school dances, and they're giving "Becky" in school libraries. I know that the media tends to go for the "money shots" but there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with our society, and our children are reflecting our piss poor respect for ourselves as adults.
Aside from Michelle Obama, and even Sarah Palin for the conservative women (who aren't worldly), who else do young girls have to look up to? Who do boys have to look up to aside from Barack Obama? Even so, The Obamas and Palin aren't everyone's cup of tea, and most of them are too young to even understand these people's achievements.
People keep commenting on "end of days" when these things happen, and I guess I'm not so sure anymore that the world really isn't coming to an end.
I guess I could understand if it did. Frankly, if I were God, I'd have probably pulled the plug on this bitch a long time ago. But then again, this is why I'm not God.
I think it really bears discussing when it seems like things that were unheard of, especially these crimes, are becoming commonplace.
When a father (Jamar Pinkney Sr.) can execute his 15 year old son, only after having him strip naked, in public, then it's pretty clear that we, as a society, are taking steps backward.
"The more things change, the more things stay the same."
I guess a hell of a lot more will have to happen before we as Americans, change the way we operate. By that time, more innocents would've been killed, unfortunately.
We thrive on ignorance, and run from enlightenment. We accept whatever it is that media, pop culture, and the shadowy figures behind them tell us to accept. Sometimes I feel like Winston in Orwell's "1984".
Personally, I feel that Alyssa Bustamante should be put in a dungeon alone, the whole for the rest of her life or executed.
"But she's a kid!"
And? At 15 years old, I was a sad and mostly depressed creature. I was melancholy and lonely. I was awkward and only happen when some guy paid attention to me, and lost when he didn't. However, no matter what my condition, I had enough of a moral compass, enough humanity and enough morality to know that killing a child or anyone to see what it feels like is just wicked and demonic.
She was grown enough to kill an innocent child. She is grown enough to then stand trial, and be tried to see if she could be executed, and ultimately executed. At 18 years, I was old enough to ship off and fight for my country, and even die for it.
Am I the only one who wants to know what's going on?
