I was thinking about going to the spa this weekend for a facial, and having been to Gene Juarez, a local upscale beauty salon and spa (not trying to brag but that's what they consider it up here), before I decided to check out some prices. I've been thinking about getting highlights in the FREAUX (dig my hip French spelling? Oui? lol) and looked at the hair menu. I saw "re-texturizing" and just HAD to know what they meant. I was curious because several years I was treated by my ex-mother in law to a spa like this in AZ for a relaxer and they basically didn't do shit lol, but that's another story.
So, what did I see? The fuckery you see before you.
I'm not making this a race thing because there are white women with tightly coiled curls who get shit for their hair too. Albeit it doesn't have the same negative history as ours, so I don't think this is about race.
This is about a beauty ideal that is obviously still being pimped. Seriously?
I gathered that my hair isn't soft without being straight, that it's not shiny, that it's not free and flowing, not fabulous and I was unjustly born with curly hair. WOWERS!
I am sure that they don't mean anything harmful by it, but I got a kick out of it. I figured you guys would too. I was seriously turned off by their explanations.
My hair is everything they purport to provide with a hair straightening and then some. It's got spunk, it's got spirit, it's got life.
