Guys, I was at the gym this evening watching CNN's coverage of the earthquake in Haiti. As I sat pedaling on my bike, I looked up in time to see the body of a blessed little angel under a sheet. He or she must have been no older than my littlest one who is about to be two.
I couldn't continue. I got off and tried to get something to wipe my bike and leave, because I was fighting back tears.
As Mr. Slim and I left, we began to cry in the car. I can't sit idly by while my family--Yes, family because in this world we ARE a family, fuck what you've been told--is hurting in Haiti.
I'm still working on a few ideas to help raise money. I'm thinking about the logistics of doing a 12 hour run, bike, danceathon, SOMETHING in order to compel people to donate.
This is not a black problem. This is not an Obama problem. This is a family problem, and we need to come together and help these children, mothers, fathers--our brothers and sisters, big and small--to begin rebuilding!
Please send "Haiti" in a text to 90999 to donate to the American Red Cross (click Click here for more info from The Red Cross or text "Yele" to 501501 to donate to via Wyclef Jean's Yele Haiti Organization (Click here for more info). Just TEN bucks or even FIVE bucks from you and all of your friends could mean shelter, food, medical care or clothing for our brethren.
Yes, if you're white they're YOUR brethren. IF you're Asian, they're YOUR brethren. If you're Hispanic, they're YOUR brethren.
