Okay, I've always preferred Solange to her sister Beyonce, because Beyonce appears "beauty queen fake". Besides, any high profile sister who takes the big chop is alright with me. That takes balls to say a big "fuck you" to the Weave Industrial Complex that is the entertainment industry. With that said, she is entirely too puerile sometimes. Her latest Twitter rant being an example of that.
I get that Beyonce, Sasha Fierce, whichever of her two personalities, won 6 Grammy Awards, a laudable feat, but it's not like others haven't come close. What's ONE extra Grammy? We were happy when Lauryn Hill did that back in the Nineties. So your sister won an extra one? So?
This is what happens when cats get too big for their britches. I can't take it away from Beyonce, because the broad is bad. She's got a great physique, she can sing (even though I think her voice can be irritating), she damned sure can dance, and she's a performer. She can do all of those things. It's not for nothing that she's richer than her husband Jay-Z when he's been in the game longer than she has.
I understand that people are tired of Taylor Swift, but Beyonce was in that position YEARS ago when she was younger and fresher. This is not an age thing per se. She's an industry veteran, and older in this game. Damn it, we aren't getting any younger. These chics are older than I am by a year or two. Hell they are a year short of their thirties. Taylor Swift is young, barely legal (or freshly legal), might do some ho' shit in a few years to stay relevant, and she's blonde. Everybody who has a brain can see it. I'm not going to use the race card, although I do believe that white female artists have a longer shelf life than black ones usually. Hey, it is what it is. Just stating the obvious. I mean, who needs Eve or Trina, when Ke$ha's drunk ass, and Fergie, have the rap/talk/I don't know what to call that shit-thing going? The majority can identify with them faster than they can identify with Eve or Trina or Lil' Kim for that matter. Hell, even Nicki Minaj's ass can't hold a candle to Fergie right now. It's not for lack of skill, although they both suck pretty hard, one's a machine and has a whole lot riding behind her. The other, not so much.
Beyonce is popular, but people get tired of the manufactured personalities used to simultaneously distance and ingratiate themselves with the fans. She's Sasha Fierce for all the "undesirables": the gays, the single black women who carry way too much baggage to find a mate and need validation for their inabilities, the baby mommas, the gangsta bitches, all of them. I say undesirables, not because I personally find these people worthless, but because it's clear she's relegated Sasha Fierce to the demographic she can shed if she wants to, and she will the minute people get tired of straddling between "hood" and suburban, cosmopolitan goodness.
Beyonce sings the ballads, Beyonce is soft, Beyonce talks about "halos" and shit. Sasha Fierce writhes her ass on Grammy stages like she's chasing a massive, death-inducing orgasm, asks for a man that's "hood", etc.
People get tired of CONUNDRUMS, Solange! Taylor Swift doesn't do that! She appeals to girls and older women who are picked on, have been picked on, ugly ducklings turned beautiful swans. Hell, "Teardrops on My Guitar" is my SHIT! That's something I would've written in High School, if I actually had the money to afford a guitar to cry on!
So, don't take it personally. You know, it's called karma, right?
If you want people to give a shit again, tell your sister to shed some of that beauty pageant facade, and be a little more down, and she'll be alright.
