Anonymous, I think this discussion is missing the whole point of Pat's argument or its logical conclusion. Yes white men created the ideological documents upon which this country was founded (probably drawing upon numerous other sources in the process), but does that mean the other people who weren't part of that racial (and gender) group don't deserve the rights conferred to all American citizens by those ideologies? Or just because these white men wrote those ideological documents, all white men should have more entitlement to these rights because of it? Or even because they wrote it, they are the only ones that are allowed to administer justice on the supreme court and deliberate laws that govern the lives of all Americans. If your answer is "yes" to any of those questions your understanding of the declaration of Independence and the constitution are truly flawed.

But Anon 6:14pm I see what you are trying to say but what you're saying is almost negating the fact that there had would have been blacks who would have been part of and privy to those intellectual ideas if they were permitted. That's the thing, we will never really know. If history were different, and the cultural climate at the time were equal, meaning no slavery, and equality for all (let's not forget that plenty of blacks fought in the Rev. War just to get freedom) and there were no blacks involved in the conversation on freedom, independence, etc, then Pat would be in essence more right, than he is wrong. Unfortunately, that's not the case. And from what I've read about South African historians hiding the significant contributions of African civilizations they unearthed, I would not be surprised if there was more info out there that may not ever see the light of day.

But again even if I concede that point to you, we have to remember that simply starting up a "business" is not enough to guarantee its success. The product, the output, the demand for that product and the labor put into making that product a success is what is important. The same thing can be said for our country. Just economically speaking, we are where we are because of the numerous resources we have available to us. Without the slave and immigrant labor, we may be saying "Long Live Good Queen Bess" still.

Dear Ms. Slim: My response to your response to anon: You argue that the white founders of the nation, who did indeed establish the intellectual foundations of the nation, perhaps can only take credit because they kept others from helping. One could argue that for any contribution by anyone in history, for example, Thomas Edison can only take credit for the lightbulb because he kept others from helping, who would have contributed but for his exclusionary practices, or the foundations of jazz music would have been in the Swedish immigrant community in Wisconsin, but blacks in the South and Chicago kept them from helping out. As to your second point: I don't think anyone, including Pat, would doubt the contributions of other groups, but there would have been no "USA" but for the intellectual foundations, there would have been no nation to which to contribute. The US, unlike any other nation, is just founded on ideas, and those ideas come from European intellectuals. Finally, kudos on responding substantively to comments, rather than just saying "idiot" or "racist" - it's a credit to you.

If you want you can refute with unbiased sources everything that man has said in that video. That's what you and your ilk fail to understand. We don't know if that's all the way true, considering that they wouldn't have given credit where it was due in the FIRST place. They thought of blacks as 3/5 of a human being if I am not mistaken. Even if I do concede you that point, is that even fair?

When I was in basic, you had a bunch of ass kissers who would always take up all the work on a Sunday. Even when others tried to help or wanted to help, they just had to clean the barracks all by themselves. Then they would bitch and moan that nobody helped them and they did all the work. When I hear Pat speak, he reminds me of those people. So again, if I concede your point, that's not a reflection on anyone else but the exclusionist practices of the founders.

Furthermore, they may have had the start up idea, but you and I both know that econimically speaking, and I can point to SEVERAL companies who owe their stature today to this, the hard labor done by Chinese, Mexicans, Blacks, etc. was a significant contribution. If you look just at England alone, you can see her rise thanks to the Caribbean. Spain? Caribbean and Latin America to name a few.
